Ben Hoadley is a bassoonist and composer working throughout Australia. He is principal bassoonist of the Canberra Symphony and appears as a guest with orchestras including the Sydney Symphony, Orchestra Victoria, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony and others. Ben's compositions include commissions from the Australian National Academy of Music's "The ANAM Set", the Australasian Double Reed Society, the Sydney Omega Ensemble, Chamber Music NZ and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra bassoon section. He has participated in the composer programmes of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and regularly attended the Nelson Composer's Workshop as a performer and composer. Ben won the NSW Flute Society Composition Contest in 2020 for his work "involute". Ben's Double Bass Concerto was premiered in 2023 by the Auckland Youth Orchestra with soloist Oliver Spalter, and several of his works have also been performed by the Auckland Chamber Orchestra. Ben holds degrees in performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, and as Master of Music (composition) from the University of Waikato, where he won the Lilburn Composition Prize.
